GOVA COMBINES
Gova Sports administers the official SAT® for Athletes (Standardized Athletic Testing). We use the same equipment used at the NFL Combine. No stopwatches here!
What is a combine:
A "Combine" is an event which tests a combination of several performance characteristics including speed, power, strength, agility, and positional skills. These measurements are used to evaluate an athlete's overall skill level relative to their position. This event serves to make the college recruiting process easier as it provides non-biased test results for players to be measured with by coaches. College coaches place great importance on verified statistics - this is why the Standardized Athlete Test (SAT®) is so important, and a football combine offers an invaluable opportunity for this. At a combine, your height, weight, and a range of athletic abilities are measured to provide a baseline. These metrics are crucial in determining whether you possess the necessary skills and physical attributes to excel at the next level of competition. Additionally, these measurements can be instrumental in helping you understand which division level best matches your abilities. While combine numbers are not the sole factor in recruitment decisions, their significance cannot be overstated. They play a pivotal role in the recruitment process, potentially opening doors to opportunities or, conversely, indicating areas where further development is needed in the competitive landscape of college football recruiting.
Presenting accurate and consistent data from standardized combine testing is increasingly important, as the number of competitors continues to grow and as modern training methods are expanding the bounds of athletic potential.
The error from hand timing results in a minimum of 0.1 to 0.26 second difference from electronic timing. The 0.18 ± 0.08 second variance should be considered if hand timing is being used for ranking athletes.
Nearly eight million students currently participate in high school athletics in the United States. More than 480,000 compete as NCAA athletes, and just a select few within each sport move on to compete at the professional or Olympic level. Minor improvements in an athlete’s score can ultimately inform development and coaching, and can make a large difference in their future.
The SAT® for Athletes (Standardized Athletic Testing)
In order to accomplish the goal of standardized testing, everyone must be taking the same test and have it administered and graded the same way by a disinterested third party. In the world of athletic testing this means that all athletes will take the same core tests, measured on the same equipment, given by a person who is not their parent, coach or personally connected to them in any way. Gova Sports uses the same equipment used at the NFL Combine, the Zybek Sports system. Since 2011, Zybek Sports has provided the only fully automated timing system used at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Zybek Sports has also provided electronic timing for several collegiate Pro Day events, allowing coaching staff and scouts to compare Pro Day times with NFL Combine times, with the knowledge that athletes’ times were measured in exactly the same way at both events.
Consistency, Consistency, Consistency!
It is well understood that speed schools and training facilities share a common interest in assisting their athletes to reach the next level. Although this agenda may or may not be a given, if training facilities choose to manipulate standard testing regulations and procedures, they will be staking their reputation of being a credible training facility. Inaccurate testing will ultimately damage the athlete’s identify and future career; to prevent this, Zybek Sports carefully chooses partners like Gova Sports that will maintain a high level of credibility and integrity.
